I don’t know why it is but waiting often causes a mixture of responses. For a child, waiting on homemade cookies to come out of the oven can be one of the most difficult mountains to climb. As an adult, it might be waiting on the next doctor’s visit to hear the results of the test. In either case, waiting can be a very tough process.
King David was a man who had many enemies, both from without and within his household. During a time of conflict, with an army encamped against him, David concluded his thoughts concerning the source of his salvation with these words, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14; ESV) As frustrating as it must have been, David remained focused on God to provide a victory in His time. Like Saul had done against the Philistines at Gilgal (1 Samuel 13), David could have rushed and tried to take matters into his own hands; however, he knew that would not demonstrate his faith and reliance in God and ultimately would have placed David’s will as supreme.
In your life, there have been and there will be many more occasions where it seems as if an army is encamped against you. Life doesn’t always turn out the way we think it should, and circumstances come into our paths, leaving us confused and wandering which direction or movement we should take. When this happens – wait. When you approach the throne of God in prayer, telling Him of your cares and asking for His guidance and direction – wait on Him to answer in His time. Often, the answer you are looking for is found within Scripture. At other times, you might see the circumstance you had been stressed about simply dissolve. Whatever the answer may end up being, like David, we would do well to develop an attitude of waiting on the Lord, gaining strength and courage along the way.
May God bless you this week as you walk with HIM!
